Canned frozen limeade intensifies the citrus flavor of this slushy libation, an easy drink for summer cocktail parties and cookouts. Pair it with any spicy dish—a frozen margarita is just the thing for taming the heat.

Yield: 4–6
Time: 5 minutes
  • 1 cup silver tequila
  • ¼ cup triple sec
  • 1 Tbsp. agave nectar or <a href="https://www.saveur.com/article/wine-and-drink/simple-syrup/">simple syrup</a>
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • One 12-oz. can frozen limeade
  • Lime wheels or wedges, for garnish

Instructions

  1. To a blender, add the tequila, triple sec, agave nectar, salt, limeade, and 6 cups of crushed ice and pulse until smooth. Pour into a pitcher and serve in chilled glasses garnished with lime wheels.

This is nothing more than a sherr-ified large-format Margarita. Unexpected but natural lovers—oloroso sherry and tequila—are married together with lime, sugar, and a splash of Averna for a rich, autumn sour spiced up with nutmeg.

Yield: makes 8-10 cocktails
Time: 15 minutes
  • <sup>3</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> cup fresh lime juice
  • <sup>3</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> cup simple syrup
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> cup Averna
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> cup oloroso sherry
  • 1 <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> cups blanco tequila
  • Candied or sugar-dusted lime wedges, for garnish
  • Grated nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine lime juice, simple syrup, Averna, sherry, and tequila in a large punch bowl. Add large cubes of ice or a few generous scoops of ice, then garnish with lime wedges and grated nutmeg.

What You Will Need

Yield: makes 1 cocktail
Time: 5 minutes
  • 1 1-inch pineapple round
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. pineapple juice
  • <sup>3</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> oz. agave syrup
  • 1 oz. mezcal
  • 1 oz. silver tequila
  • 1 lime wheel, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Build a medium-heat fire in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to medium. (Alternatively, heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium-high.) Grill pineapple, turning once, until seared on both sides, 1-2 minutes. Cut pineapple into 4 chunks and set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, muddle together lime juice, pineapple juice, agave, and 3 chunks grilled pineapple. Add mezcal, tequila, and ice; shake well. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with remaining grilled pineapple chunk and a lime wheel.

Developed especially for fun-loving Sagittarius by astrologer/bartender Patricia Clark Hippolyte, these mouth-puckering Jell-O shots turn the classic margarita on its head. Ginger simple syrup adds a bit of Asian-inspired flavor, a nod to Sagittarius’ love of travel.

Yield: makes About 30 Cubes
  • ¾ cups reposado tequila
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cups ginger simple syrup
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatin

Instructions

  1. Put lime juice into a 1-qt. saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow gelatin to soak for 1-2 minutes. Heat over very low heat until gelatin dissolves, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in tequila and simple syrup. Pour into 8” x 4” loaf pan or ice cube trays and refrigerate until set. Cut into 1” squares; garnish with shredded mint leaves.

  • 1 oz. white tequila, preferably Tequila Cabeza
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. Domaine de Canton
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. mango purée
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. fresh lime juice
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> oz. agave syrup
  • Shaved dark chocolate, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine tequila, Domaine de Canton, mango purée, lime juice, and agave in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled champagne coupe. Garnish with shaved dark chocolate.

Mixologist Patricia Richards shared the recipe for this refreshing margarita, served at the Eastside Lounge at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas. This recipe first appeared in our April 2012 issue along with Xania Woodman’s story Raising the Bar.

Yield: makes 1 Cocktail
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 3 oz. fresh blueberries
  • 4 basil leaves, plus 1 sprig
  • 3 oz. reposado tequila
  • 1 <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. Grand Marnier
  • 1 oz. agave syrup

Instructions

  1. Boil juices and sugar in a small saucepan until sugar dissolves; cool. Pour syrup into a shaker with all but 4 blueberries and the basil leaves; crush with a spoon. Add tequila, Grand Marnier, and agave. Fill with ice, and shake. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice; garnish with remaining blueberries and basil.

Ingredients

For the Ginger-Kale Juice

  • 1 cup ginger juice
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> cup kale juice

For the Cocktail

  • 2 oz. blanco tequila
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • <sup>3</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> oz. agave nectar
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. ginger-kale juice
  • Salt, for rimming the glass

Instructions

  1. Rim a rocks glass with salt, set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in ½ oz. ginger-kale juice, tequila, lime juice and agave nectar. Shake well, and pour over ice into your salt-rimmed glass.

Note: Fresh ginger and kale juices are available for takeaway at some juice bars. To make kale juice at home, wash, stem, and roughly chop kale, and liquefy in a blender at high speed, straining out solids if desired. To make ginger juice at home, finely grate knobs of peeled ginger over cheesecloth; squeeze cheesecloth to strain out ginger juice.
